Captain, it was Khan.......!!!!

"Do you know the Klingon proverb that tells us revenge is a dish that is best served cold? It is very cold in..." October.
paraphrashed from Star Trek 2, The Wrath of Khan....and I imagine the thought running through the Yankee coaches and players minds tonight.

I and many Yankee fans feel like Admiral Kirk and the rest of the Enterprise crew during the initial battle scene of ST2 after this week from baseball hell. The Yankees have played crap baseball the past 10 days or so, playing without energy, verve, poetry or joy and just plain looking bad. They also couldn't have chosen a worse time to be uninspired as the Bosox have chosen this exact moment to awaken from their "we ain't family" coma and have started to wallop the heck out of whoever their playing. The Yankees are 4-6 in their last 10 games, the Crimson hose? 8-2 over the same time period. The Yankees had a commanding 10.5 game lead over their Boston rivals, that lead now stands at 6 games, and how many games do we have left against our lovely New England friends? Six on back to back weekends in mid September.

The fact that the Yanks choose the Twins and the Angels as the teams they'd underacheive against is cold comfort as they are 2 of the clubs we could windup playing in October.
So here's to anger and rage and playing through age and pain and other assorted ills.
Here's to remembering what it tastes like to lose in the first round or watching a young and hungry team outplay you when it counts.
Here's to serving the (insert first round opponent here) Angels, Twins, etc and the Red Sox cold, cold plates in the nether nights of October.
